Belmont Bridal Boutique Keep up the Momentum

Belmont Bridal Boutique is hosting a fashion show for potential customers on Thursday 12th June, with 10% of sales being donated to local charity Momentum.

There will be 2 fashion shows held on the night (6.15pm & 7.45pm) which are to showcase UK Bridal Designers including Stewart Parvin and Forget Me Not. 10% of all sales on the evening are to be donated to Rhian Johns who is hosting a Top Hat and Tiara Grand Ball on behalf of Momentum at the Treetops on 30th August 2008.

Rhian Johns suffered a brain haemorrhage at the age of 20 just over 2 years ago where she spent 2 ½ months in intensive care with 5 of those weeks in a coma. As part of her rehabilitation programme since leaving hospital she has been on the Pathways Programme at Momentum in Aberdeen. Rhian has made a miraculous recovery and is hoping to go back to University in September 2008.

To show her support to Momentum, Rhian wanted to give something back to the charity and has decided to organise the Top Hat and Tiara Grand Ball. Tables have almost sold out for the event; however they are still looking for a main sponsor for the ball.

Deborah Fowler, Co-owner of Belmont comments, “Belmont Bridal Boutique are delighted to be supporting Rhian and Momentum. Amanda and I have known Rhian and her family for a long time and we are so pleased that we can now do something to help. We will also be attending the Grand Ball at the treetops and are donating an evening dress for the raffle. We are looking forward to an exceptional evening.”

For more information about the UK Bridal Designers Fashion Show contact Deborah Fowler on 01330 820822 or email deborah@belmontbridal.co.uk. For more information regarding the Top Hat and Tiara Grand Ball contact Rhian Johns on 07527-968370

Grampian Wedding Directory Article

We are all very excited at Belmont Bridal Boutique as an article has been published in the latest issue of GWD regarding Stewart Parvin, who is one of our wedding dress designers. It came out a couple of weeks ago and we have had brides calling just to try on the Stewart Parvin range.

See what you think of the article!

FIT FOR A QUEEN
Catherine Stott interviewed British bridal designer Stewart Parvin whose gowns are available from Belmont Bridal Boutique in Banchory.

Stewart Parvin showed a keen interest in fashion from a young age. Having trained at the Edinburgh College of Art, Stewart’s first commission on graduating was to design and make a “very grand” dress for the bride of the owner of a well-known dairy company. Although Stewart continued to make one-off wedding dresses as a result of word-of-mouth recommendations, he spent the next three years working for the couturier Donald Campbell in Chelsea before moving on to work as a designer for various high street chains. Although this was exciting and challenging work, Stewart missed making beautiful, classic clothing and so decided to set up on his own, opening his Boutique in Knightsbridge in 1996.

Finding that he was designing more and more wedding dresses for the daughters of his Boutique clients, Stewart launched his first wedding gown collection in 1999. Taking a very prominent position by the Champagne Bar at the British Bridal Exhibition at Harrogate, made sure that Stewart’s first collection of eight dresses did not go unnoticed. Harrods were interested in stocking Stewart’s dresses from the start, but, after a few years of being marketed through Caroline Castigliano, Stewart decided that the correct route was to sell through high-quality, independent retailers. As a result, his dresses are now available throughout the UK and also in Japan, Australia and the USA.

These days, Stewart introduces a new wedding collection every year, with twenty dresses in each collection. While the number of dresses may have increased, Stewart Parvin’s gowns are still all about quality. Not only is every dress hand-made in London, with strict quality control at each stage, but only the highest quality, most luxurious fabrics, usually Italian or French, are used. Stewart uses a wide range of fabrics to suit the variety of his designs. Current dresses use silk, satin, tulle, taffeta, corded and Chantilly laces.

Stewart’s dresses may be described as very simple, elegant and understated. However the apparent simplicity of a Stewart Parvin gown belies its complexity. Each gown is beautifully constructed, often incorporating elements of corsetry. Brides choosing a Stewart Parvin design do not buy a dress to hide behind but a dress that flatters them and allows them to show off their best features.

Stewart comments: “Girls who choose my gowns tend to be quite self-assured and know their minds.”

Stewart favours ivory for his wedding dresses, however, most dresses are also available in white. With a Stewart Parvin gown the only non-white colour is likely to be incorporated into an accessory, such as a floral corsage or ribbon. Stewart Parvin supply a complete range of accessories, including diamante and pearl jewellery and hand-made veils, to co-ordinate with the gown.

Dresses are available in sizes 8 to 18 but Stewart Parvin is unusual in also offering a comprehensive made-to-measure service. Brides using this service will have all their measurements taken, then a calico mock-up is made. The bride has a fitting in the calico mock-up to which all adjustments are made before the actual dress is made. This service allows any figure issues to be accommodated so that the dress fits to perfection.

Having designed some of the Queen's most acclaimed Golden Jubilee outfits, Stewart Parvin established his name in the fashion industry. However, it is the great care and detail put into all of his ranges which set him apart. A bride in a Stewart Parvin design knows that her dress will be a unique mix of classic and contemporary and will look just as good in the wedding photos in twenty years time as it did on the day itself.
